I am so tired of seeing this stupid picture everywhere on tumblr. SHAKESPEARE. DIDN’T. WRITE THIS. Here’s how I know.
1. Umbrellas
   a. Umbrellas weren’t commonly used in Europe until the late 1600s. Shakespeare died in 1616.
   b. Umbrellas were more commonly referred to as parasols in England at that time.
   c. Umbrellas were used to keep out the sun. People didn’t use them as a protection from rain until the 1700s.
2. Do you really think Shakespeare wrote in language that simple? Here, let me find my book of the complete works of Shakespeare and write down something from a random page:

I know you all, and will awhile uphold
The unyok’d humor of your idleness.
Yet herein will I imitate the sun,
Who doth permit the base contagious clouds
To smother up his beauty from the world,
That when he please again to be himself,
Being wanted, he may be more wonder’d at
By breaking through the foul and ugly mists
Of vapors that did seem to strangle him.

This is what Shakespeare sounds like.
3. IT’S SHAKESPEARE. SHAKESPEARE. NOT SHAKESPEAR. S-H-A-K-E-S-P-E-A-R-E. You’re already dishonoring him enough by crediting him with some poem he didn’t even write. At least spell his name right.
I’m so sick of tumblr girls finding some nice, pretty poem and instead of looking for the original author, they just credit Shakespeare. It’s disrespectful to the Bard, the actual author and everyone’s intelligence.
